Gentle Doctor Benefit Raises $41,300 for Scholarships
The
2006 University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine Gentle
Doctor Benefit raised $41,322 toward its goal of endowing scholarships
for veterinary medical students. The new amount brings the total
value of the endowment to more than $120,000.
The 2006 amount was the second highest
in the benefit’s history and was an increase of more
than $700 in profit over last year’s. Interest from
the account is used to provide scholarships to MU College
of Veterinary Medicine students.
The Gentle Doctor Benefit is an annual
dinner and auction started 19 years ago to help fund construction
of Clydesdale Hall, MU’s veterinary medical teaching
hospital. With that obligation fulfilled, its new goal is
endowing a $200,000 scholarship. The benefit is a dinner and
auction held each April.
“Because of the ever-increasing cost
of tuition, scholarships have become a critical way for promising
students to realize their dream of becoming a veterinarian,”
said Lisa Jones, special events coordinator for the college.
Ms. Jones coordinates the event.
The 2007 Gentle Doctor Benefit will be
the 20th anniversary of the founding of this tradition. A
date and place will be determined later.
Auction items and
corporate sponsors are being solicited. For details, contact
